Many people have a variety of goals and personal preferences when it comes to employment. While some people enjoy less stress, such as that provided by regular positions, others argue that self-employment is far superior. I believe that being self-employed is better to a 9 to 5 position since I prefer to follow my own schedule and enjoy being able to achieve my own goals.
First, being self-employed allows people an incredible amount of flexibility. A normal 9 to 5 position requires employees to be at the office by a specific time and not leaving until the appropriate time. There are very strict rules about the number of breaks employees may take and lunch hours must be taken within a specific time frame. Employers may have policies governing the number of sick days that are available, or even when employees may take their vacation. Employees are given very little choice and must follow all of the rules. Violating rules may result in verbal warning or even termination of their employment. However, those that are self-employed can make all of the decisions without risk of consequence. Being self-employed allows people to completely set their own schedule, the only one to reprimand them being themselves.
Second, being self-employed allows people to focus entirely on achieving their own goals. Without being self-employed, people must follow and complete the tasks dictated by their immediate supervisor. Any pursuit of personal goals on working hours will result in termination of employment. Employers have very little regard for the goals of their employees, their primary concern being the profitability of the business. However, those that are self-employed are free to pursue whatever course of action they believe will accomplish their goals. If a specific process or task does not suit the goals you have in mind, people can immediately adapt or change to something more appropriate. However, this is only possibly if you are self-employed.
In short, people have a wide variety of employment preferences. While some people want the safety of a regular paycheck, others prefer the freedom to pursue their own goals, which includes me. I prefer being self-employed because of the additional flexibility and ability to pursue my own goals no matter what they may be. Being self-employed allows me to pursue my dreams of financial success rather than knowing that my hard work allowed someone else to buy a new Mercedes Benz.
