I believe that computers have primarily provided society with advantages due to faster communication and easier access to information.
First, computers have provided faster methods of communication. With society becoming increasingly more global, computers have played a significant role in the communication systems of today. Previously, communication was restricted to methods such as mail. If a businessman traveled abroad, any reports that needed to be sent were subject to potentially vast delays. With business competitiveness becoming very dependent on time, this situation was entirely unacceptable. The Internet allowed businesses instant communication. Sales personnel can send emails or instant messages to managers in any country of the world. This added efficiency makes global business possible.
Second, computers have made it possible to access a large amount of information. This amount of information allows students to complete projects with relative ease. Students doing research previously had to spend long hours flipping through books in libraries. Even spending the time doing research, students may still have been unable to find the information they were searching for. However, thanks to the Internet and the computer, anyone doing research can do so from the comfort of their own home or office. Information has become available form sources such as Google with the convenience of a single click of the mouse.
